Why it fits

Claude is already the thing doing the work

Workout Chat's in-app assistant is Claude-backed. The connector doesn't bolt a second, dumber system onto the side — it hands Claude the same tools the app itself uses, so a session logged through Claude is parsed exactly the way one typed into the web app would be.

What you gain is context. Claude already has your conversation, your project, and whatever else you're working through. Adding your training history to that means you can ask a real question — "given how my squat's moved the last six weeks, what should I open with?" — and get an answer grounded in data rather than in generalities about periodisation.

Setup

A URL and one approval

The MCP server is remote, over Streamable HTTP, so there's no local process, no runtime to install, and nothing that breaks when you upgrade your machine.

  1. Add a custom connector Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, then paste the URL. https://workout.chat/mcp
  2. Or edit the config directly Claude Desktop reads the same server from its config file if you'd rather not click through settings. { "mcpServers": { "workout-chat": { "url": "https://workout.chat/mcp" } } }
  3. Approve once OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration — no API key to paste or rotate. Revoke from your profile whenever you like.

What Claude gets

Fourteen tools, not one

A connector that could only append text wouldn't be worth much. This one covers the whole model, so Claude can correct a mistake, follow an injury through recovery, or check whether a goal is still realistic.

  • Workouts — log, list, update, and fix individual exercises
  • Exercises — canonical lookup and progression history
  • Weigh-ins — record bodyweight and plot it against a goal
  • Injuries — log, update, and check in as severity changes
  • Goals — set targets and review how close they are
  • Profile — unit system and training preferences

There are also published Agent Skills at /.well-known/agent-skills/, so a client that auto-loads skills picks up the naming and unit conventions without being told.

What it looks like

"Log deadlift 3x5 at 315 and front squat 4x6 at 185"
Both movements land in today's session, matched to the canonical exercise names so they join the right progression.
"Is my deadlift actually going anywhere this block?"
Pulls every deadlift session in the window, reports top sets, volume, and the trend — and says so plainly if the answer is no.
"Set a goal of a 405 deadlift by December"
Records the target. It resolves itself the day a session beats it.
"Right hamstring is about a 4 out of 10 today, better than Tuesday"
Adds a recovery check-in to the existing injury and tracks the trajectory rather than opening a duplicate.

Questions

How do I add Workout Chat to Claude?

In Claude's settings, add a custom connector pointing at https://workout.chat/mcp. Claude Desktop also accepts it in claude_desktop_config.json if you prefer editing the file. Either way the first request opens a browser tab for OAuth.

Does this work in Claude Desktop, the web app, or both?

Anywhere Claude supports remote MCP connectors. It's a hosted server rather than a local process, so there is nothing to install and no Node or Python runtime to keep working.

Is Workout Chat built on Claude?

Yes — the in-app assistant is Claude-backed, which is why logging behaves the same whether you type into Workout Chat directly or talk to Claude through the connector. Same parsing, same tools, same log.

Can I use it inside a Claude Project?

Yes. Once the connector is authorised it's available to your conversations, so a project you use for training planning can read your actual history rather than working from what you remember to paste in.

What can Claude actually do with my log?

Fourteen tools spanning workouts, exercises, weigh-ins, injuries, and goals — create, read, update, and delete. It can log a session, correct one, pull a movement's progression, track an injury through recovery, and check goal progress.

How do I revoke access?

From your Workout Chat profile. Revoking invalidates the token immediately; nothing has to be changed on Claude's side.
